Zelenskyy on Russia’s ceasefire violations: The only thing that concerns it is short-term silence on Red Square 05/07/2026 13:15 Ukrinform President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the only thing that continues to concern the Russian leadership is short-term silence on Red Square. He said that Ukraine will respond to Russia’s strikes in a mirror fashion.

The head of state announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

Recalling the numerous strikes over the past two days on civilian objects in Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, and Kherson regions, as well as on Ukrzaliznytsia, Zelenskyy said: “All this indicates that Russia does not seriously consider the possibility of a ceasefire, and the only thing that continues to concern the Russian leadership is short-term silence on Red Square. Russia continues to kill people and inappropriately worries only about a few hours of silence in one part of Moscow.”

He noted that Ukraine will act justly – day by day. “We proposed silence from midnight on May 6. Yesterday and today this regime is being violated by Russia. In a mirror manner and in response to Russian strikes – our long-range sanctions; in response to Russia’s readiness to move towards diplomacy, we will follow the path of diplomacy,” the President said.

He stressed that concrete steps are needed to end the war and assured that peace will eventually be achieved. “The only question is how much time will be lost due to Russia’s madness,” the head of state concluded.

As reported, on April 29, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, during a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, announced Russia’s readiness to declare a ceasefire on May 9.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy later stated that Ukraine had not received official signals from Russia regarding a cessation of hostilities, despite statements on social media. Nevertheless, Kyiv announced a ceasefire regime from May 6 and urged Moscow to move from rhetoric to real actions.

On Wednesday, May 6, the President of Ukraine stated that as of 10 AM, the Russian army had committed 1820 violations of the ceasefire regime – shelling, assault attempts, air strikes, and drone use. He noted that Russia had disrupted the ceasefire regime.
