“Vice Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine – Minister of Culture of Ukraine Tetiana Berezhna signed and transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine the nomination dossier “Vyshyvanka in Ukraine: a Socio-Cultural Tradition,” the message states.

It is noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Representation of Ukraine to UNESCO have submitted the dossier for consideration by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

“The tradition of vyshyvanka is one of the most widespread and vibrant forms of Ukraine’s intangible cultural heritage. It unites people regardless of age, gender, or social status, preserves cultural continuity, and is passed down from generation to generation – in families, educational institutions, through workshops, festivals, and community initiatives. Today, the vyshyvanka is an important part of our lives. Therefore, it is crucial for the world to know that it is ours and why it is so important to us,” said Berezhna.
The Ministry of Culture emphasizes that craftswomen and craftsmen, cultural institutions, educational institutions, and public organizations that research, popularize, and transmit knowledge about the art of embroidery to new generations play a special role in preserving the tradition.
“The submission of the nomination became the result of joint work between the state and communities of bearers, artisans, civil society organizations, researchers, and cultural institutions, who united around the idea of safeguarding and international recognition of Ukraine’s living heritage,” the department notes.
The Ministry of Culture expressed gratitude to the communities, tradition bearers, public organizations, experts, and scientists, all state institutions, regional centers of folk art, scientific and methodological centers of culture, educational and cultural institutions for their active participation in the preparation of the nomination.
As Ukrinform reported, the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, together with the Ukrainian World Congress, is launching the global campaign “Vyshyvanka Unites” for the 20th anniversary of World Vyshyvanka Day.
