Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepted Almost 6,000 Russian Drones and Missiles in April 07.05.2026 12:00 Ukrinform Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted nearly six thousand Russian drones and missiles throughout April.
As reported by Ukrinform, this information was shared by the press service of the Ministry of Defense on Facebook.
“Nearly 6,000 Russian drones and missiles were intercepted by Ukrainian air defense in April 2026,” the statement reads.
It was noted that over the month, the enemy launched: 6,583 drones – 5,861 were shot down or suppressed (89%); 141 cruise and ballistic missiles – 89 were intercepted (over 63%).
The overall air defense effectiveness in April reached 88.5%, with specific days seeing 92-95% of targets neutralized, the press service added.
The Ministry of Defense also recalled that the most intensive drone attack occurred on April 1st, when Russia deployed 700 UAVs. Significant combined assaults involving 600-700 drones and missiles also took place on April 3rd, 16th, and 25th. On April 15th, Russia simultaneously launched 21 cruise missiles, with Ukrainian air defense successfully downing 20.
The primary challenge remains countering ballistic missile attacks; however, Patriot systems, for which Ukraine lacks sufficient missiles, can effectively engage them, the ministry pointed out.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine’s air defense shot down 5,935 drones out of 6,600 that the Russian army deployed against Ukraine in March 2026.
