Kazakh oil could reach German refinery via Gdansk instead of Druzhba – media 29.04.2026 21:29 Ukrinform The supply of raw materials for the PCK refinery in Schwedt (Brandenburg state) may be partially rerouted through the port of Gdansk (Poland) in May, following the cessation of Kazakh oil transit via Russia. This is reported by the German public broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), Ukrinform reports. “Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) is confident that the PCK refinery in Schwedt (Uckermark region) will continue to be adequately supplied with crude oil. According to him, supply is secured at 80% for May,” the publication states. According to Woidke, the authorities expect to compensate for the loss of supply after Russia announced the cessation of transit of Kazakh oil through the Druzhba pipeline to Schwedt from May 1st. Brandenburg’s Minister of Economics, Martina Clement, confirmed that the parties are working on alternatives. According to her, all participants in the process are working “at full speed,” and “additional supplies via the port in Gdansk, Poland” are being considered. At the federal level, these efforts also find support. Germany’s State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics, Frank Wetzell, stated that “the federal government is actively supporting PCK in replacing lost crude oil supplies through alternative supply channels.” In this context, he also mentioned “additional supplies via Gdansk.” It is noted that Kazakhstan has announced its intention to transport oil via Russian ports – approximately 260,000 tons, which were previously intended for the Schwedt refinery. However, the final destination of delivery was not specified in the statement from the Kazakh side. The PCK refinery in Schwedt is of key importance for supplying fuel to northeastern Germany, including Berlin, as well as parts of Poland. In 2025, the plant processed 2.15 million tons of Kazakh oil, which accounted for about one-fifth of the total supply. Previously, the main volumes of raw materials arrived via the port of Rostock (about 60%) and Gdansk (approximately 20%). The share of supplies through the Polish port is expected to increase after the cessation of transit via Russia. As Ukrinform reported earlier, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, confirmed that the transit of Kazakh oil to Germany through Russia will not take place in May due to technical limitations imposed by the Russian Federation. According to the minister, the Russian side, based on unofficial data, claims it lacks the technical capabilities to pump Kazakh oil. At the same time, Akkenzhenov himself suggests that the suspension is “most likely related to the recent attacks on Russian infrastructure.” Photo: pck.de Kazakhstan Oil Poland Russia Druzhba Pipeline
