Training for captains completed for over 1100 officers since the start of the full-scale war – Fedorov 04.06.2026 23:44 Ukrinform Over 1,100 officers have already completed training as captains since the full-scale war began.
According to Ukrinform, this was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, on Facebook.
He noted that he visited the Captains’ Training Course, a program designed to cultivate a new caliber of tactical-level officers. Currently, another 75 officers are finishing their training and heading to their units on combat positions. This marks the 14th course. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, more than 1,100 officers have been prepared.
Together with instructors and command staff, they assessed how the training is being scaled and what areas require reinforcement, the minister observed.
According to Fedorov, the Captains’ Training Course is a mechanism for systematic officer development, employing NATO’s approaches to professional military education and military planning procedures, adapted to the realities of this conflict. Officers are crucial for unit effectiveness on the battlefield; mission accomplishment and the preservation of lives depend on their decisions.
Officers are mastering TLP (Troop Leading Procedures) – the process for preparing and planning unit actions at the company level, as well as MDMP (Military Decision Making Process) – the military decision-making process at the battalion staff level. This enables swift action amid uncertainty and the making of informed choices.
The training is grounded in actual combat scenarios, from the defense of Kyiv (2022) to offensive operations (2026), and is continuously updated based on lessons learned. The intensive program lasts three months, seven days a week. Company commanders, platoon leaders, and staff officers train collaboratively, synchronizing the work of infantry and staff.
They utilize DELTA, “Kropyva,” and other digital tools for situational analysis and planning. A specific focus is placed on drones and unmanned systems, including reconnaissance UAVs.
Instructors possess combat experience and regularly undertake internships in brigades to ensure the training aligns with frontline realities, emphasized the head of the Ministry of Defense.
Since 2022, the “Come Back Alive” foundation has been supporting the implementation of the Captains’ Training Course, mobilizing donor funds and providing the necessary facilities for training and accommodation of the participants.
“Our team’s objective is to transform the training system for Ukrainian military personnel. In conjunction with the ‘Come Back Alive’ foundation, we are working to scale the Captains’ Training Course and revamp professional military education at the tactical level. High-quality training leads to reduced losses and increased effectiveness,” Fedorov stated.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, military units that have implemented digital record-keeping no longer need to maintain paper logs, books, and reports.
